The physical education and wellness curriculum promotes eating disorders
Nutrition education of "unhealthy" vs "healthy" food isn't appropriate for elementary school. Even starting in grade 1 with objectives like: "Examine healthy decision making in food selection."
Kids DO NOT make food choices at home. Adults do. Related to their culture, income and many other factors. Food education for kids should be about fun exploration.
Being weighed and tracking food encourages eating disorders. Which have the highest death rate of any mental illness.
As a dietitian and mom, I hope experts can be consulted in revising this section of the curriculum. I don’t believe it’s “updated” at all but likely decades old.
