Curriculum Feedback

Hello,

My name is Stephanie Fitzgerald. I am a parent and teacher and wanted to reach out with regards to the curriculum draft that has been proposed by the UCP government.

While I believe there are benefits to piloting any new curriculum in classroom settings before fully integrating it into our education system, I feel that this particular draft has far too many flaws to warrant the time and energy it takes to even pilot the draft.

To name just a few of the weaknesses found in the document, much of the information is developmentally inappropriate; the curriculum encourages outdated pedagogical practices, such as memorization; and there are numerous inaccuracies and/or errors that have been found by subject experts.

As a professional, I am immensely proud of my fellow educators for the work we have done over the years to best serve young people. We have introduced innovative practices and engagements that prepare them to be successful when they leave our classrooms. This curriculum would significantly reverse the progress that we know we have made. This curriculum does not have the best interests of students in mind.

I am very glad that our school division has refused to pilot the draft and hope that our Minister of Education and the Government of Albert reject the draft curriculum outright.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Fitzgerald
